MOUNT OLIVE -- Below zero and a foot of ice makes for ice fishing and great skating conditions in Morris and Sussex Counties.
Last weekend Kevin Gorman caught a 23 inch, 3 lb., pickerel so his friend Nick Gagliardi decided it was time to try ice fishing.
It only took Gagliardi a minute or two using a manual auger to cut through Budd Lake's foot of ice.
"Time to play ice hockey," said Karl Kattermann after he caught a 17-inch long pickerel.
"Caught a fish, time to play hockey," he added after releasing the fish back into the lake.
Michael Riggs and his brother Jetur Riggs cleaned off an ice rink behind the family home on Lake Hopatcong in Stanhope.
The hockey puck let out a loud clang every time it hit the goal frame.
"It's been a few years since we did this," Michael Riggs said.
"We did this all the time when were 10," Riggs added.
